Default Muffler Feedback

My 86 has the original exhaust system in very good condition. I would like just a bit more rumble mostly at idle and maybe accelerating and decelerating. I just don't want any cruise speed resonance. I know exhaust systems have been discussed many times, but I can't find anything about the original replacement type with both outlets open. The originals have 1 outlet open and 1 closed. They are inexpensive compared to the others at $160 pr. Has anyone had any experience with these and would they give me that bit deeper rumble I'm looking for? Thanks,

Mike

Do they make original replacements with both outlets flowing? I just can't see any single outlet flowing exhaust flowing enough to give you a rumble.

They do make the mufflers that will have two active outlets. Just know that these will give you resonance as well. I think you might be interested in a pair of muffler elimanators. They will improve performance and give you a good sound. Also I believe the resonance that you do not want will decrease as a result.

But as an original replacement?

Mid America and Ecklers list them. My first thought was they were quiet, but they also list a quiet stock replacement. They claim having both outlets open improves sound.
I appreciate all feedback but are you joking about muffler elims? Wouldn't that be way too loud?

Yes, muffler elims would be pretty loud. IMO, they sound like an old muscle car with elims on.

When you get more air flowing out, it's definitely a plus. It'll probably give you a little louder and deeper sound with both outlets flowing.

I think you have ruled out the elims and the Flowmasters. My gut feeling is the two-opening stock replacements will be much like what you have.

Anytime now, the Corsa, DynoMax and others crowd will be along.
