Default 67HEAVEN.. Radiator Fitment Question..

I was mocking up the Dewitt's Rad in my 65 Rat wagon.

I find that I have to trim down the top hold down brackets by around 3/8" to make them go down without interfearing with part of the rad shape.

I must also state here that this is a Custom dual fan rad like the one that's in your 67. It is mounted in a Dewitts Reproduction 66 BB rad Support.

Now here's the real kicker...It looks like I have to trim the driver side electric fan shroud as it hits the upper "A" arm forward bushing bolt. I have to trim it enough so that you can get a wrench on it.

I can't get the rad to move over far enough to set correctly in the lower bracket. Looks like I have to move it around 1/2 " and then leave enough room to get in their to tighten up the "A" arm bolt at alignment time.

Disclaimer

Now ..for all you Dewitts Fans....I'm not dumping on Tom Dewitt here.....anytime you build sometong that is not original you will always run into fitment problems. The quality of the Rad and Support are not in question.

But Murrphys Law Always applies to The Midyear Corvette.

Did your Dewitts fit ok In the 67HEAVEN or did you have to trim and cut..?

Hi Mark,

Indeed, I did have to trim the driver's side fan shroud, but I attrributed that requirement to the VB&P control arms that I installed.

Are you staying with the stock arms?

I was able to use the stock '67 upper rad hold down brackets without modification.

Yes,
Using the stock arms. Of course My car was a SB and had the SB "FI" shroud...(which by the way is for sale)...so Ididn't have any upper brackets. I purchased them from Tom as a seperate item with the new BB support.

The upper brackets of course were designed to work with the stock BB radiator..not our Large dual fan suckers. How Much did you have to chop out??

Ok...so.Iguess I get out my Chain Saw and start cutten.

Starting directly above the upper control arm bolt/washer (remember VB&P stuff, not stock), a 1/2" cut in towards the rad, then tapering gradually down, and back, to uncut at 2.5" below the starting point of the cut. Some of the cut was required to finesse the fans around the control arm.

Ain't hotrodding fun?

Yes it is my friend.... Just think..we are helping the future BB 502 builders as well as the other large motor guys coming up. Rich.... of Richscorvettes.and your self and ....Dennis M....also...Stepinwolf
and myself and the the untold other numbers of Midyear guys who have stuffed BB's and 502's in between those skinny little Midyear legs have all put down our info so others may bennifit.

It's kinda like the Movie.. "Forbidden Planet"... You Remember.. When the Kroll left all there knowledge in the Giant machine..and Walter Pigon would suck out little tibits here and their.

I can imagine 200 Years from now when they find the records of the forum and the saga of the 67Heaven and the 65 Ratwagon....

You've got that right, and I've already bought and paid for a TKO600, to help me get all that torque to the rear, and will be picking it up in Carlisle. The SWC that will be home to the engine, will be called " Born to be Wild " and you can take my word for it, it damm well will be. I had originally ordered a 572, but at the time no fuel injection was available for the engine, so I went with the 502

For now all holes that are there, on the intake or otherwise, were supplied by the " General "
