According to CNN on-line or the Christian Science Monitor 0n-line...can't recall which, Peter Max has 36 Vettes garaged, years 53 - 89 that will likely become objects of his art, each an original piece of art. He hasn't had time to begin yet and they are collecting dust. He paid a half million for the 36 cars.

His vision/playful daydream is to enter a stadium of some kind with all 36 cars in a line, balloons and the like, with a cheerleader in or on each.

I tried to find the article in yesterday's on-line paper and couldn't find it. Did anyone else see this?

Why not? As long as none of them are ultra rare... The Vette is rolling art anyway!

There is a entire forum segment at DigitalCorvettes.com with pics of the cars in their current condition, etc.... I think it is listed as Peter Max or something like that.

...as one who was around Corvettes back then, as I am today - I feel that he should have never gotten a hold of them.

Dennis (the guy who won them from VH1) wanted about 1.5 mil for the cars - he was in construction in NY and had no real use for all those cars - which in 1988, had not hit their peak of values yet, some not even on the collectability "radar"...

At any rate, Dennis settled for about 500k, selling to Max who wanted to make a statement with the cars by painting them in flambouyant colors :eek

...nothing real "cutting edge" about the news - just some old and forgotten Corvettes - a bunch of them though :eek

Report: Classic 'Vettes left in the dust

A collection of 36 Chevrolet Corvettes wait for artist Peter Max's big dream.

May 11, 2005; Posted: 4:52 p.m. EDT (2052 GMT)

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Thirty-six vintage Corvettes are gathering dust in a Brooklyn garage waiting for their owner to follow through on a dream he had nearly a decade ago, according to a report in New York magazine.

The collection -- one Corvette for each year they were made -- belongs to Peter Max, a pop artist known for his colorful images and hippie iconography.

Max, who says he's not a "car guy" and never drives, told New York magazine he got "the biggest PR dream he ever had" after he saw the cars at an auto show in 1990.

"Suddenly I see my Peter Max Corvettes coming out onto a football field with cheerleaders on top. There are 60,000 people cheering, screaming. A guy in front of me is screaming to the guy behind me -- he's holding a frankfurter and mustard is dripping down his sleeve, I see this in my dream -- he's screaming right at me, looking through me, 'It's Peter Max's cars, man!"

Max paid under half a million dollars for the collection of 36 Corvettes, which include models from 1953 to 1989, with the intention of painting them in his signature bright colors and offering them as limited editions.

But the dream wore off and a hectic schedule caused the artist to put the project on hold, according to the magazine. The cars have been gathering dust in a garage in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, ever since, the article says.

Those waiting for a Peter Max original shouldn't lose hope. The artist vows to follow through with the project, the magazine reports.

I've been following this story...
I can't even imagine what I'd be like mentally if I won 36 Corvettes in some contest. I do know one thing, out of the 36, I might've sold 3 or 4 of the late 70s.
And yeah, although they're his cars, what he's let become of them is criminal. What must he be shelling out for storage!?!!!!
Peter? Keep me in mind sweetie when you wanna unload 2 of the big blocks!!!!

I've seen pictures of them and they were not prepared for storage and have just been sitting there unloved. The pics were enough to make me cry!!:cry

Well none of them are big blocks. But there is 1 for every year from 1953-1986. The 1953's VIN # is no were to be found on any registry.
