Default Do Some Vettes Have 2-bolt Mains?

Hi.

I came to the conclusion that the 350 engine in my 69 is not original since it has 2-bolt mains. However, the guy at the machine shop believes it is the original - he mentioned an HR suffix somewhere on the block. If that's the case, perhaps i should keep this motor.

Is it possible that some Vettes came with 2-bolt mains?

Thank you.

Yes, a lot of vette engines came with 2-bolt mains. I believe in the low horsepower days only the L-82 came with 4-bolts. Sorry don't know specific years or engines, but positive about some vette engines coming with only 2- bolts.

All C3 350 base engines from 1971-up had 2-bolt mains; L-82's were 4-bolt.

Tatortot and JohnZ,

Thank you for your replies. Hopefully, I'll get confirmation from the machine shop. This project is full of surprises!

My previous 71 L-48 was unmolested original motor ... it had 2-bolt mains.

If the engine number matches the VIN then it's the original engine. If they don't match it's not original.

I'm pretty sure the base 350's were all 2 bolt - I know my L48 is.

I didn't know the big blocks had 2 bolt mains but as stated above all of the base small blocks used in the C3 did. The performance small blocks (LT-1 and later the L-82) all had 4 bolt mains.

....only the LS-4 has a 2 bolt. The LS-5 and LS-6 had 4 bolt. The LS4 was only used in '73 and '74 in the Vettes. It is also known as the Truck Motor.
