Anyone know if the choke on a stock 81 is electric or manual? I'm rebuilding and am planning on putting an Edelbrock 750 CFM but not sure if I should manual or electric.
Thanks.

I copied this to the L81 Forum also so more would see it. Of course I guess I could go look. I have to leave for work though. I'll check later if nobody else chimes in.
i replaced my carb with a demon with electric choke. Never hooked it up and never had a problem starting in my NW ohio daily driven 81. I have since yanked the choke off all together.
Mine was sticking when I first got it. Tried to adjust it but just lost interest in getting it right. Basicly just adjusted it all the way off. I start it up and warm it up manually anyway. Not really a start and drive away car anyway.

I had a 780 Holley on my '67 coupe with the 427/390. It was a manual choke aftermarket carb and I never had it hooked up, even in cold weather. It worked fine but did like to warm up a little in the winter.

I thought we couldn't change to a different type of carb due to the electronics in the ECU. Will a standard Edlebrock work?
If you haven't purchased the 750 Edelbrock and the engine is fairly stock you might want to look at the Edelbrock 650 Thunder series carb. with electric choke. I have one on my 81 and it has performed very well.
I have disconnected my computer and replaced the distributor with one from a 1980 model.
I put an edelbrock performer 750 on mine and was never happy with it. I studied up and learned how to rebuild / modify my stock Quadrajet and in my opinion it is far superior to the Edelbrock. Cris
