Kooks Longtubes c4c5??
Hey I just ordered the Kooks 1-7/8" longtubes and their 3" off road package. I was wondering about the fit of the headers and any easy methods from somebody that has done this header install already.

Installed them over the weekend. The drivers side was very easy to slide in from the top jacking the engine on one side. The passenger side was very tough, but got it in. The quality, fit etc. is excellent! Now for some dyno time. Baseline is 410.5rwhp 386ft/lbs. We will see.

I'm very intrested to install a long tube headers. Please update us with the performance gain and how does the car sound now. Does the cabin noise increases significantly? or is it still nice and quite inside?

I just got back from the dyno and was very pleased.
SAE 424.5rwhp @ 6800rpm and 403.2 ft./lbs. @ 4800rpm.
SAE not STD. 488hp @ the flywheel and 463ft./lbs. of torque
STD. was like 435rwhp

Thanks Gorgon! Yes I am very pleased with the outcome especially over 400 ft./lbs. at a mere 4800rpm. I got on it on my way home today from a standing start. 2nd gear finally grabbed some traction after about 30ft. of rubber. lol! The funny thing is the car now sounds like a sport bike hehe.

The car is alot louder by far. I really have to be careful. People still want to race me though with their Carollas and Maximas. lol! That will never end. Minivans are one of my favorites to race lol!

I went with the LGM's last year. So you went with the off road package....do you get that odor others have talked about without the cats? Not wanting that smell wafting in with the top down, I went with the cats......only to have one go bad after about 3,000 miles

Yes Brett, I do get that odor from the pipes. I don't blame you for wanting the cats either. Plus you have quite a few ponies to spare by the looks of the C5-R 427 hehe! I'm just trying to make a few ponies and can't spare them like yourself lol. I guess I can blame it on my tuner, he talked me into it. It's very loud and I do get a resonance somewhere in the 2200rpm range. Under full throttle with my extended rpm range it sounds just like a sportbike as I told Gorgon. It's still fun to drive and I have just a couple more things I would like to do, maybe a Fast Intake with a Fast 90, then AFR heads. Then it will be done until something fails. After that I will be in your boat with another block probably. Most likely for me will be a 402, or a 408 block hand built by myself. As sad as it is, it is like therapy for me lol!

What kind of odor are you talking about, can you describe it. Is it like burnt metal ???
I got that smell from just revving my motor in nuetral once and wondered if that is the same as you described.

It is "unburnt fuel" I get it as well with running no cats on my 87. It smells really bad and does not take long to start stinking of it. Us people with C4's have to do everything to try and make them faster .
