Default 88 with starting problem

I took my vette for a ride on Saturday pulled in the yard and shut it off. Tried to start it after i opened the garage door it would not start, nothing no click nothing. I tried diconneting the battery, turned the key on shifted thru gears (auto) , tried the new second key. Tried it about 30 min latter started right up.

Last year it did the same thing. Started after about an hour. Bought a new key. Did not have the problem again till Saturaday. Any ideas.

Sounds like your VATS system......A new key will help.

Had a very similar problem myself. Forgot (new owner at the time) about the VATS, and since the battery was very old, replaced it (needed it anyway). Turned out that a new key was the way to go. Still happens once in a great while, but I remember it now and wait 3-4 minutes then try again. If you get no click and no turn-over of the starter, but the horn honks and headlights are bright, chances are it's the VATS. You can get a key from the various Corvette suppliers then have a local key shop cut ir for you for a reasonable price, or just have the local key place check (there are 15 codes for the resistor) and cut it. Good idea to have a new one if it is the original key. There is a document here on CAC that lists the resistance range for each key and the code number to use for ordering.

Welcome to I had a VATS problem early on. Sounds like you didn't wait long enough before trying your new 2nd key.l If this happens again, five minutes, by the clock with no tampering outa do it. If not, then repairs will likely be in order.

Waiting 5 minutes or disconnecting the battery for 1 minute should clear the VATS memory if this happens again.

Yes, these are classic signs of a VATS problem. Getting a new ignition key usually solves the problem.

Or turning it off in the EPROM.

Would the VATS system turn off the motor while you were driving down the road???
