Default windshield wipers acting up on high...

The wiper motor, when on high, gyrates about one inch from the rest position. It seems to work ok on intermitent and low, and the washer works. I put in a new delco switch, but no improvement. I unplugged and plugged in the two blade conectors on the motor, no change. I tried pushing around the weathertite passageway between the door and the body, hoping to find a loose wire, no luck. Where do I go next?

No ideas? I did searches on this topic, but every problem seems different.

It'll be a few days until I can get to my manuals. Did you slightly move the switch, up near that max position, making no difference?

I really can't help with this matter at all but I just had to laugh when I read this post, as I have never even turned my wipers on. I sat in the drivers seat last night and it took me a minute to even find the switch. Just thought that was funny. Sorry I can't help, but good luck!

I didn't try to wiggle the old switch, but I put in a new switch, [50 bucks Canadian wholesale], and same old thing. So, I don't think it is a switch propblem. I had mice damn near destroy my car, and after I took the interior out of the car, I noticed that the little vermin had chewed a few of my stereo wires up, and they were grounding out and screwing up the power antenna. Well, thats fixed. I don't know if there are any wires in close proximity to the transmission tunnel that affect the wipers, but if there are, I'd like to know about if fer sure. I'm going to have a look at the wiring diagram in my shop manual tonight, but where to start?

Look I have a 90 and my helm book says the printed board on the motor might be the problem. I can not tell from the manual if that is a seperate part or if it comes with the motor. I don't know for sure if this info is any good for your 87? Tom

There is a small PC board in the end of the wiper motor. I think there are three wires going into the switch. The board controls the speed and park function. When you're having the problem, try to whiggle the three wire plug on the wiper motor. This stopped the problem with my 88 for a while. I did replace the board when the trouble came back. Cost of the p art was around $40 at GM.
