License Plate Light?

When I was having my new Magna Flow's put on today my 89 Vette was in the air and I glaced up at the license plate and noticed an opening above the rear plate. I am assuming the light for the license plate fell out there. I looked for wires but didn't see any. Am I correct in assuming the whole is for a light and if so are the wires there somewhere? P.S. The Magna Flows are totally cool.

There are backup lights on either side of the license plate, with a third lamp above the plate for nighttime illumination of the license plate. The side marker lights (the white lenses) are tied into the backup lights as well.
