My Corvette(s):
Default Finaly Got one!!

Well i managed to pick up a vet from a guy at work, 85,4+3,112K mi., Red with saddel interior. Every thing appeirs to be stock on it. Says he just had the tranny and OD gone through. My only problem is i have to replace the bumper cover on the back , the drivers quarterpannel, and the drivers side door skin. I might have to replace the panell under the door, and the one that goes on the b piller. Also the Drivers door , rear and mabey the top glass.

Has any one here ever replaced the quarter pannel on a 85, it apperies to be glued on with resion. The bumper cover apperies to be a bolt on affare.

Ill also change out all the weather stripping, and some of the interior.

It needs some work but for the price i paid for it i can afford to put some in it. Got it for $1500 Plus me and my father are both mechanics and car nuts so working on it is no problem.

So what do you guys think? Even in its ruff shape it still lookes good net to my 71ss Elky in our work shop.

Thanks

HTR

If it runs out alright and the tranny is good, I would have definetly bought it too for that kind of money. They are definetly fun cars to have. Good luck

To find parts.... Body parts ... I bought some from Tabor Corvette Parts in Indianna I think ... Search them on the net and call them...

Door Shell 250 bucks...
rocker panels 50 bucks too

good prices and good to deal with ...

New parts and new body parts ... check GMPartsdirect.com best price on door jamb for my 90 ...

Just my 2 cents

I believe the upper and lower panels are joined along the black molding. I read somewhere that they used the moulding to hide it. I agree with vettefan, if it's mechanically sound, especially the tranny and 4+3 unit then it'll be a blast fixing her up and sweet looking when shes done.

enjoy the new purchase and definately post some before and after pics.

Len

Congrats on the purchase. I sounds like this vette is in good hands. Have fun with the restore. It'll be worth it.

Congrats and welcome.

The rear bumper is a bolt-on.

Depending on the nature of the damage, the body parts can be V-ed out along any cracks/seams and repaired with SMC resin and fiberglass, w/o replacement. It depends on the damage. I fixed an arrowhead-shaped nasty break in my RR quarter over ten years ago, this way. I V-ed out inner and outer seams., filled them, ground them down for proper contour and finished it all.
