Speaker Grill Fixed, Sort of

I finally got to a project that has been sitting around for a while.

Although in otherwise excellent shape, my '95 coupe had a problem with the driver side front speaker assembly. The carpet was all loose (except for a bit at the top holding it) and I could feel that the plastic below was cracked.

I got it all apart today to find that the speaker cover plastic and even plastic parts of the sill cover will broken and missing. The speaker cover was only behing held on by two fittings.

Some quick work with a glue gun and the carpet is now back on and I was able to reinforce the plastic a bit. Putting it all back together, it looks pretty good, so I probably am not going to fuss with it for a while - or perhaps try to find a new sill cover assembly.

But I just can't figure out how that damage occured. Its so tight in there that you couldn't even get up enough legroom to kick it properly. Maybe something heavy was dropped on it, but there sure isn't much room to do that.

Any ideas?

It's really strange how these things happen. I've had occurences in my lifetime that are just as bazaar. A mangled plastic battery cover in the engine compartment when the battery was tight (another car). Water in the well storage back of passanger seat of my 93 which never happened again. Just some of the things that to this day can't figure out. So....you are not alone. Gremlins maybe!

Good job on the fix...

My guess (still

) is that the previous owner/s damaged it over time w/ their left/clutch foot.

If the speakers were never replaced then it could only have been damaged while in the car, leaving the left foot as the "prime suspect".

Well, now that you mention it, the work was also a preliminary to putting in a new sound system. I wanted to know what I was up against, if there was more damage than there was.

If the previous owner damaged it shifting, then he sure was a "lead foot"
