Default 61 interior paint code

Need to get a paint code for 61 red interior. Is it the same as the Roman Red exterior or is it a different color of red? Thanks for the help !

Same paint as the exterior, just wasn't buffed out.

Thanks John. I'll get Roman Red. I just wanted to make sure that was the red interior color used with the Ermine White exterior.

One other question. In 61, what was the wheel color for Ermine White body color? I'm looking to put radials on and thinking of repainting the wheels. I thought I read somewhere the wheels were body color. My coves are red (not a standard factory option) and the wheels are also red. Looks good but I suspect it's not correct.

1961 wheels were painted the primary exterior body color; '62 was different (black with whitewalls, body color with blackwalls).

Thanks again John. I guess I need to get some Ermine white as well if I want the wheels correct.

Now the other big question. I called the local automotive paint supplier to order the paint. My exterior is lacquer (last painted in 1983/84) and I assume interior is also. I was informed lacquer (he handles DuPont) is no longer available to him. He suggested using a single stage acrylic enamel for the interior. Didn't think to ask him about the wheels. What do you think?

I also wanted to get a little touchup paint for some exterior chips. Will acrylic enamel be ok for touching up over lacquer?

I'll leave the compatibililty question to those who really know paints, but PPG still makes Duracryl lacquer, and plans on doing so for the foreseeable future; DuPont is abandoning the lacquer business.

Dennis

I'm sure in your area there are other paint suppliers who can get lacquer paint for you, but if you have trouble here is the paint supplier I'm using for my current paint job.
I'm currently repainting in BC/CC but I picked up a pint of lacquer last summer from him as he does carry lacquer paint by PPG.
They are in Kennett Square, Pa.

good luck

BarryK, Thanks for the info. If I can't find someone closer with PPG lacquer I'll check with your guy.

I've read a lot of posts of BC\CC vs Lacquer. Would acrylic enamel would be a good choice for the interior kick panels, package tray, etc instead of lacquer?

What was used for wheels/rims?

you're welcome

sorry, I can't answer your other questions - you need someone who knows more about paint and more about C1's than I do.

Thanks Barry. The questions are for anybody who can help.

Would acrylic enamel would be a good choice for the interior kick panels, package tray, etc instead of lacquer?

What was used for wheels/rims? I read a post that gloss enamel was used on wheels for 63. Same for 61?

Yup, GM wheels were always painted with gloss enamel.

Any one have thoughts on using an acrylic enamel instead of lacquer on the interior (package tray, kick panels, and eventually, the dash panel assembly).

I used the PPG Duraclyr lacquer on my 61 interior and was very happy with the results. I believe if you click on the URL below there is a drop box that will locate a distributor for you in your area.

My concern would be that it might be too glossy.

Ray & studiog,

Thanks for the replies. I see both of you post a lot and I value your thoughts and opinions. Deep down, I wanted to stay with lacquer and your comments have convinced me to do so. I just needed that little reinforcement from guys like you to help me decide.

I have found a paint supplier for PPG in the local area. The web address of PPG was helpful.

From someone who doesn't know much about these cars, I really appreciate the willingness of so many like you who will take the time to answer the questions (some probably pretty stupid) from guys like me.

Thanks again

Denny
