Default Which code scanner?

I am looking to pick up an engine code scanner for my L-81, but am not sure which one will work. I see sunpro CP9001's but they say for '82-'95. Will these work or is there another one for the '81 vette? Thanks and God bless, Cris

Chris,
81's and Cali 80's use a different ALDL connector. They should have an adaptor for the 82-95 scanners.

Thanks Mike, next question: Where do you get such an adapter. The auto parts store was clueless and I have not seen anything on line...help...

Chris,
They stopped making them many years ago. I would start by contacting Sunpro. After that try the tool trucks: snap-on, Matco, Mac. Also try some repair shops. Scanners get updated/replaced every few years and the old ones get tossed in a drawer.
Is there a specific reason why you want to buy a code reader? You can get nearly all the info with a voltmeter,tach/dwell meter. and a paper clip.
Mike

I always wanted to view the fuel trim readings from the computer... I know I could setup an A/F monitor through the O2 sensor, but I'd much prefer to actually see the computers reaction to the readings.

Let me know if/what you find in terms of a scanner/adapter.
