Default Power Steering Conversion

Hello everyone !! Happy Friday

I've been so busy working on my garage addition, I have not had much time to visit the site or tinker with my vette.

I just purchased a power steering gear box from Corvette Steering and now I'm in the process of researching which way to go for the PS Pump.

Since I am not concerned with originality, I want to install something that looks good and is trouble (leak) free. Has anyone by chance, installed a GM Type II pump on their Midyear. This is the same type pump used in the C-4s and requires a remote reservoir. I have had problems in the past with the Saginaw pump that is more widely used.

Pics of actually set-ups always helps tremendously

I hope the garage went well

Me personally if I was looking for a simple system,I would stick with the sagnu system,Youll be able to get all of the brackets, pulleys, and hoses for the set up no problem and affourdably

If i was looking for a trick system then I would chose to go with the march performance set up.(an entire engine dress up with billet parts) as Mark Vietnamvette did on his car.

Good Luck. The only problems i have had with the sagnu system was from a poor rebuild.

Thanks for the response IH2LOSE

The garage expansion is (and will be for a while) still in progress. Unfortunately, its taken a backburner position while I work on a kitchen remodeling project....... prerequisite by wifey to obtain approval for garage expansion. Can't complain though, she is insisting on a nicely setup garage workshop, including a 16' workbench with Stainless Steel countertop...can't say I've argued with any of her ideas yet

Do you mean Saginaw system? I did a google search under sagnu and came up empty handed.....do you have a web page or something you can point me to?

I think that is great move, that box. I've been looking at it as well. I have never had many problems with the orig style of pump either, thats the one I would use.
Let us know what you think when it's all installed.

I have been thinking about installing PS on my 1963. You can get a complete kit for around $650 on ebay.

If I go with changing out my front end on the '60 with new IFS, get a rack that takes PS, point me in the right direction for what parts I would need to add PS to it....the motor is out right now going from 350 cuin to 383 stroker....so I am not worried about losing a little bit of power....there will be plenty....

I am leaning to the Myer front end that bolts in.....I realize that it is older technology....but if I knew someone that would purchase my frame, suspension and drive train (for the most part) and I could get a decent $$$ for it....then I might change direction again and go for a new stlye frame with C5 front end....but that is big $$$ so I would want to get decent money for my existing stuff to offset the price of the new....was looking at www.artmorrison.com frames....was in Vette magazine and talked to then today about it....anyone know someone that needs a complete frame, front suspension, rear suspension, steering gear on shaft is known to need rebuild, rest is in good shape...brand new brakes less than 5 miles on them....

I know a fellow who is using an Art Morrison frame. It is very nice. I know that the one they use to build required modification of the trunk area there the spare tire is. I heard that they were changing the design so that no modification was required.

How much for your complete frame? What is the condition? any modifications?

I used a MR2 power electric power steering pump. A bit noisy but no problems with pullies etc. There is someone out there doing electric pumps for one of the modified classes. As soon as I find him I will post the info.

I used the Saginaw Type II pump (from an S-10 truck) and a remote reservoir from Speedway Motors on my Grand Sport, with an Appleton sprint car power rack and pinion setup. The top half of the (grainy old scanned) photo below shows the pump mounted to the front of the driver's side cylinder head with a (gold-colored) Moroso sprint car adapter bracket, and the finished engine compartment photo down below shows the reservoir on the far side inner fender, and you can see the gold-colored bracket just outboard of the water pump.

Put that stuff on Ebay, Corvette Forum, or the ncrs website...That stock, rust free stuff sells fast over there...Don't forget your steering column has your vin # on there, don't loose that!
