It's very unlikely for any newer production car to blow up in a big ball of flame. There's likely very little chance of that.
Typically, when the car senses a "major malfunction", it shuts down the gas delivery. (even with most NO2 setups)
As for the camera guys, we all have our ways of expressing things when we first see 'em. Technically speaking, 'awesome' is a neutral word. Around here it seems (and I'm not saying this is bad), even
we tend to look at the car first,
then we think about the driver. The car is just the first thing you notice and that's what you react to. (Not defending them, just givin my usual unbiased opinion.)
Anyways, I believe they were associates of the other car staged against the Z.
