I believe the G92 RPO is a 3.07 rear, at least that's what is in my 86 Z51.

G92 is the designation for a performance rear axle ratio. IT just shows that the car is equipped with that extra-cost option.
The actual gear ratio is different depending on the tranny in the car. For an A4 the HP ratio is 2.73; for a manual it's 3.07. If G92 is on the RPO list, there should also be a G44 for the 3.07 manual or a GU2 for the 2.73 auto

C4cruiser, I'm not sure about 87's but a D44 or D36 depends on if it's a coupe or Vert, my 86 is G92 coupe but has a D36 3.07.

Yours is not optioned with Z51 or G92, when the car was ordered with Z51, the G92 code was included along with Z51 and several others included HD cooling and upgraded bars and shocks as well as tighter steering.
I just remembered what the difference is

| Actually the tranny does make a difference but not like C4cruiser said, - If you have an Automatic, Z51 optioned, you get RPO G92 which is the 3.07, but you get the D36 rearend.
- If you have a manual tranny Z51 optioned, you get the RPO G92 3.07 but you get the tougher D44 rearend.
If the car does not have G92 or in most cases Z51 equiped, then the gearing is a 2.59 auto or stick.

Mike, The fact that you have an 86 Vert means you cannot have the Z51 package or G92 option, there were no Verts made with Z51 package.
However you do have the Aluminum heads.

| It believe it is also possible to have an automatic car optioned with Z52 + RPO G92 (3.07)
but I'm pretty sure you still have a D36

As I understand it, both Z51 and Z52 had the G92 (3.07 rear) option but only the manuals had the D44 and autos had the D36.
