Default Scissors Lift?

Anyone using a sissors type lift that they like? I want to get my 66 up about 42 inches to finish buffing the sides. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Here's someone asking about scissor-type lifts for C4s: Anyone use one of these lifts on a C4?

You may find some help there.

Steve,

There is quite a bit of information about the lift on the third page of our web site at the link in our signature. I have had this lift for several years and it has worked well for our use. They are available from any Snap-On dealer and each area of the country and Canada should have one. It's actually made by Wheeltronics in Canada.

The design of this particular lift has changed some from the one I have. It
now has a plate covering the entire top of the lift and uses two smaller
hydraulic cylinders instead of the one larger unit. The plate would limit
accessibility to some areas underneath the car. Whether that is a problem
would depend on the type of work you plan to do. While this lift has several
advantages it isn't designed to do transmission or clutch work as access is
limited in the center area of the car. A two or four post lift would be the
better choice if that is the kind of work you plan to do the most presuming
you have the needed ceiling height. One other point is that you need 4 3/4"
of space under the center of the car to clear the lift. That's not a problem
for many cars but can be for some especially if it has been lowered.

The Wheeltronics web site shown on our web site:

doesn't look like they have updated the picture and information on their
site. I see that they have changed the model number to 6000E. Mine is model #EELR300A and has a 6,000 lb. capacity. However, the Snap On catalog shows the current version. Here is a link:

It also appears to now have a five position mechanical lock system so that
would provide an extra measure of safety at those positions. The new design
also now has a max height of 48" vs. the 39 1/2" ours has.

I also noticed that the list price in the Snap-On catalog has gone up.
However, I found that you can negotiate with the dealer as they can be
flexible with their prices. I was also able to get shipping and delivery
included. It comes in at about a half ton so you do need some help to unload
it from the pallet. But, once off that, it has wheels and a dolly (which
also holds the motor and pump) so it can be moved fairly easily. The
hydraulic pump is run by an electric (110 volt) motor requiring 20 amps.

The biggest advantages I have found are it's portability, taking up very little
floor space, fitting well where ceiling height is a problem and being able to park right over it. Also, it doesn't require any special preparation work to setup. Depending on the type of work you plan to do it might fit your needs. It works great for oil changes, brake work, detailing the car, etc.

There is also a ramp style unit that might work for you that is made by
Kwiklift. Their web site is at: http://www.kwiklift.com/ It's a less
expensive unit and does give you access to the underside of the car.

Mohawk is another brand that has a good reputation for a well made unit.
They have two scissor type lifts. Here is a link:

this one can go over six feet high with many lower stop positions along the way. I would imagine that this one runs quite a bit more but it does look like an interesting unit. They also have a less expensive model:

access is the same as with most other mid-rise units.

I recently installed a scissor lift myself. Rich LaGasse was very helpful if you haven’t already found out.

In my searches I looked for dual pistons, min 36” lift, 120V. Besides checking all the safety stuff, check how and where the hydraulic lines connect to the pump. I mounted my pump on the wall of the garage and use quick disconnect for the hose. I’ve had my lift for about 9 month now and still cannot decide which way to have the lift face. Can’t decide if the Piston should be in the front or in the back???

The Mohawk lift is an excellent product. It has all of the about plus it offer multiple stop. Some lifts only offer two or three stops. My lift has four. Most of the time this is not an issue, but sometimes I could have used another stop.

One of the nice things about a scissor lift is, is not in your way in the garage. The only time you see it is when the lift is up. It works for most projects, but not all.

I bought a scissor lift from Eagle A year ago. Their site is www.eagle.com and they have a 48" and a 36" in their inventory. It serves all my needs and is one heavy piece of equipment, 950lbs. at delivery. Great for detailing, brake and suspension work. It sure is nice to sit in my chair drink a beer and wax the lower areas. If you have a C4 you may not have clearance to get it under the car. I mounted 10' 2x12 planks on the floor to give additional height to the car for additional clearance.
