I drive the stink outta my 57 whenver I can (like to CA and back to FL in 2002 and MI and back in 2003). The original owner (I bought this car from his widow in 1991) drag raced it and drove it everywhere. This car probably had more changes before 1958 than I have underwear! It was "rode hard and put away wet" more times than one can count and I'm just keeping up the tradition. Life's too short to worry about paint chips; I'm never going to sell this car anyway!
The wheels are Kelsey-Hayes (dated 1954 - from a Buick Skylark and the axles and front hubs [rotors now - installed front disc brakes] have all been redrilled for the Buick 5" bolt pattern) and have been on the car since at least 1963. Here's a photo from 63 with the wheels:
The tires are Dayton Daytona SR 215.65-R15 from Diambondback Classics. Diamondback will put any color sidewall on most any tire (supplied by them or you). My tires have probably 18k on them and look just fine. If the car still had a/c (as it did in the late 60s) I would use it as a daily driver; it gets a little hot in FL in the summers. I've put about 45k on the car in the 13+ years that I've owned it.
