Default How much rain does it take to get the salt off the street?

This may be another dumb one, but...

We've had a nice break in the weather in the Chicago area--high 50's yesterday--and I've got the itch to go for a ride.

So the question is: How much does it have to rain to clean the salt off the street?

Thanks for your help.

A Google search revealed that for every milicron of thickness of road salt, it takes 1.373 inches of rain to wash it away.
Hope this helps.

They are salt free in northern indiana. It rained for about 5 hours on thursday night, and friday was 50. So I couldn't resist. I would imagine you should be able to make a visual check. Salt does leave a nasty residue.

How much is a milicron? I have never heard that unit used to express thickness, and my google searches are resulting in a milling machine made in Cincinnatti. I know that a Mil. is 1/25th of a thousandth of an inch, but that seems like a awful lot of water to rinse it off.

Man, just when the weather gets warm, the rain starts to fall.

Sorta like the Bears.

Who are the bears oh you mean that terrible team that I happen to be a fan of. Lucky me, I am fans to great teams, Notre Dame, Cubs, Bears, all of which stink.

Default Rain In Jan??

I was hoping to be able to get mine out for a short ride this weekend and be able to wash it. But I guess that is going to wait a little longer...strange weather in Chicago! I was sure that weather man promised a better weekend than this!

Weather People - That's 1 bunch of people I don't put much trust in what they predict.
