Default 1963 Corvette in Dealership Display

I've got a bunch of original old Chevy dealership pictures that were saved from the trash when the Chevrolet Zone office was closed in 1986. I always thought this series with this Corvette display was pretty neat. Thought you guys might appreciate it.

Neat photos! Thanks for sharing. Interesting that the tires have whitewalls on BOTH sides. I didn't know that.

I want that body lift platform--that'd sure make restoration a breeze.

Note also that the wheelwells are finished out, painted apparently white or another light color. Frame is apparently painted to match the wheelwells.

Thanks for posting those photos, that is very cool.

Does anyone else remember an article in one of the Corvette publications a number of years ago that was about this display and who had it in their possesion now?

Or am I just dreaming in Technicolour again...........

The car/display (or one just like it) is at Classic Corvettes and Collectible in Tarpon Springs, FL. I saw it about a month ago, it is very interesting.

Here is their website: http://www.classiccorvettes.com/

If it's the same one I saw it was on display at Carlisle a few years ago and is now owned by Al Wiseman who is the owner of Classic Corvettes. I believe he found the display in storage at a university in South Africa and brought it back to the U.S.

Rich,

Wasn't the display at Carlilse without a body on it? I seem to remember some cutouts on the rims etc.

Tom, the one I saw at Carlisle had a body on it that raised up to show the chassis. The wheels and drivetrain also turned and there were cut-aways of the engine, transmission and differential. I seem to recall some type of background on that display with information about the car. It's possible that there were more than one of these displays made. The one I remember was used at shows such as the Detroit & New York auto shows. Maybe they also had a smaller display which circulated to the various dealerships.

There have been other displays at Carlisle and I recall the 53 restoration, that Chip Miller and Al Wiseman eventually sold on the 50th anniversary, being displayed with the unfinished body suspended over the chassis. Kevin McKay also had a mid-year done that way one year.

They sure make for interesting displays.

Rich
