Default C2 - Alternator Date Codes

I’m trying to determine the correct 1100696 alternator date code for my 67 (w/T.I.) that was built on March 16,1967. The survey results of Noland Adams "Corvette Restoration & Tech. Guide Volume 2" doesn’t make much sense. Early cars (Dec. build date) have alternators that are dated roughly 70 days prior to the vehicle build date. Then in February it jumps out to 247 days, April is 148 days, May goes down to 15 days, June is 35 days and back out 80 days for July.

30 to 70 days seems long as compared to other components on the car but is somewhat consistent. I guess availability could account for that. What I don’t get is what happened between February ~ April. I don't know if I should be looking for a August 1966 alternator or February 1967?

Default alternator date code

Hi! Mike

When restoring my 65 I tried to purchase parts with a date code with in 2 weeks of assembly. NCRS allows up to 6 months prior to the build date. I would say 2 weeks to 2 months would be the optimum dates.

Thanks Ray,

That's exactly what I thought before I looked at that book. My carb is dated the 2nd week of March and most of the other original parts are February. I don't understand why the 1100696 alternator dates are so far out from the build dates. It seems like something unique happened there. These things are getting so expensive and hard to find I just hate to make a mistake.

The 696 was a very low-volume part, and was most likely made in "batches" rather than being part of regularly-scheduled production at Delco-Remy. If you find one dated within six months prior to your car's build date, grab it.
