Just did a search here on steering boxes ...and found only one Vendor recomended...."Corvette Steering"....

Who has the best prices on rebuilt complete core exchange units.. for my 65..??

Has anyone spent time comparing Vendor Prices on the steering box??
Who would you recomend for the best...(SAFEST REBUILD) and price..

Thanks Dennis.... Wow..!!! $495.00 for a new Box.....And $300.00 for the rebuild kit.... Ther Rep is good and I'm sure there product is too but let's see what other options turn up.

They did mention something I didn't know...

I have heard nothing but praise over the years about Corvette Steering although I have never needed their services. How do their prices compare?

I was lucky in 1971 and bought a like new steering gear for my 1959 from our friends at J&D Corvette in Belflower. CA for $35.00. I wonder if they have any left.

One thing to note. CS has a box that has the PS built in, so if you have a standard setup you only need the box and not all the other items. I have one in my 68 with an electric ps pump from a MR2 and its feel is very close to that of my ZR1.

I needed PS since I am running 17x9 rims with 265 tires on the front.

My local Chevy dealer tells me that he still has new steering boxes available.

I was at the recent Performance Racing Industry show in Indy visiting Flaming River's booth and was told they are close to offering a rack and pinion for our cars. It is a non-power unit. I was interested in one to put on my daughter's 72 LT-1 since it is hard to steer. I understand the owner is going to try out the first one on his 73 Vette. To get a good angle I understand you have to drill a 1 inch hole in the engine mount bracket, but it is supposed to be engineered to elimate bump steer. No word on when it will be available to the public. I'm supposed to be notified when it is ready.

Van Steel and Bair's do excellent rebuild work on steering gears, and are competitively priced; they've been doing them for years.

Heh Tyler....Yeah...17X9 sounds like you need a "Bow Flex" or power steering...But that Japanees MR-2 Thing kind of takes the all American out of the Vette....But still.....That's some grate Engineering ..

What I liked was the PS is in the steering box and you do not have to fool with the extra stuff used in the normal Corvette PS system. I used the electric because I did not want to hang a pump on the front of the motor. THe new Malibu uses a new electric servo setup that someone will figure out how rerofit but its too technical for me.
