Default Remote CD changer wiring

Does a 2002 C5 coupe w/o a CD changer in the rear have the wiring harness
already installed from the radio (which has a CD slot) to the rear compartment under the floor. If it does where is it stored in the rear.
I want to add a 12 CD changer but do not want to buy the wiring harness if I don't have to.
Thanks, Don

You will have to buy the factory install kit for the harness(less than a $100).

Ken do you know how the harness routes? Does it have to go directly to the radio or does it plug in somewhere near the passengers feet ?.
Do you have to pull up all the floor covering to route the harness Thanks, Don

HI there,
The correct factory wiring harness is located for the plug in directly under the passenger side toe board.
Now, once plugged in, you must route it along the passenger side of the car, under the carpet. There are wiring retainers that you must put the new harness into, to avoid wiring concerns and problems.
Personally, I will removed the rear cargo area carpeting, passenger side door sill plate and the seat.
This will make all access very easy.
Allthebest, c4c5

Thanks for the help. One more question. I have seen some talk that if a CD player/radio is installed the CD changer in the rear won't work. It only will work if a cassette/radio is installed in the car. I was looking at part number
GM 12495746 on GMParts.com. It stated that the CD changer will only work with the cassette player.

Your 2002 will work with a remote CD Delco unit. All of your questions are answered in the install kit(comes with directions). Easy install, but you will need a strong adhesive to mount the plate.

I have a cd/radio player in the front and a cd changer in the back.

Hi there,
As posted, your remote CD player that you would like to mount in the rear, will only work with an ACDelco head unit. It could be the cassette or the CD, it does not matter.

Thanks for all the help.
There are several CD changers up for bid on E-bay that I am watching.

You've got to watch those on Ebay, most are broken or not correct for a C/V

Here is a question -- Since the 12CD changer is a Pioneer produced unit, will it work with an after market Pioneer head unit?

Yes, but the head unit will not work correctly in a Corvette, so why do you ask?

Just curious:

Can I piggyback 2 12 cd changers with maybe a flip switch to go from one to the other. The radio shouldn't know the difference? I know 12 CD's should be enough, but I could still use more.

I have a CD up front with a 12 CD changer out back.

Thanks,

Chuck

I'm sure you can, but there isn't room to mount 2, side-by-side. Why don't you invest your money in a spare magazine or 2?
