More puck stuff

Newbie question. Want to jack up my 97 to paint the calipers. The area around the "puck recepticle slot" is small and is adjacent to and surrounded by a black painted(?) area which in turn is adjacent to the body shell. Question--is it OK for the puck/jack pad or whatever to touch/press on the non-body shell material next to the puck slot area or must I apply pressure only to the area immediately next to the slot?

I'm not sure what you mean by puck/jack pad or whatever. There is a seperate pad to use with your jack when jacking up your car. It fits into the slot in your car then the jack uses it to lift the car. Here is a couple links to Mid America Motorworks that shows different lift pads.

The pucks are only about 2.5-3" in diameter. When you insert them into the slots there's actuall very little overlap. When I painted my calipers, I had all 4 wheels off of the ground using the pucks and jack stands. There's no problem cus the black area is subframe. Its seem logical that you could lift the car from that area without the puck but I would be very careful about the type of jack pad - I would only lift it using the pucks.
