Intake Manifold and stock hood
I am begining my 383 build and have already run into what I am sure will be the first of many questions. If I am using the Edelbrock Performer intake, a stock q-jet or a Holly 750cfm carb and the stock air cleaner.....can I still use the stock 80 Vette hood or will I need to make a change?

Just a quick question a 750 holley, kinda big. I'm running one myself. It was on the car when I bought it probaly the same set up you have. Mines a 75 when I first got it there was a star on the hood from the carb stud I cut in off a bit

Check out Edelbrock's web page catalog, I believe the only manifolds that will fit under stock hoods are the torker single plane vareity. My application is a BBC, so check out the web site for the SB.

I'm in the middle of a 383 build for an 81, just got the block back with the rotating assy in place and balanced.
I just purchased the Edelbrock RPM Air gap manifold and was told point blank it won't fit under the stock hood with a 750 on top ( Edelbrock) I have heard others say you can get it to work....best bet is to call the manufacturer and ask them for your certain application and parts, they'll tell you rather than restock the parts. I am planning to attempt to mount some remote K&N's but not sure I'll get the intake I need. I'm in the same boat as you, I really have no desire to modify the hood but I guess I will for the Horse Power

I built a 383 w/rpm intake and a holley 770 Street Avenger. It will not clear the hood with a stock air cleaner. However a big block air cleaner from a 69-70 vette fits like a glove with no mods. They are available from Paragon for about 100.00

Hi Bob,
Are using a stock air cleaner? Dual or single snorkel?

The Edelbrock Performer is a dual plane intake if I'm not mistaken. I had a knock-off of that intake and it would not fit on my stock 427 hood. I ordered an L88 hood, but even that wasn't enough clearance. I ended up buying a single plan Edelbrock which was 1/4" over stock. This works perfectly. I'm keeping the L88 hood because it looks better.

Right now I have the stock air cleaner but I like the looks of the K and N extreme setup.
On the L-88 hood....how does it look on the 80-82 bodies?
To all of you...thanks for the replies.

No matter the year, I think the L88 hood looks better period. It give the body a longer sleek look. If you're looking for one... I found that Vanacorvette has the best buy.

Where might one purchase those engine mounts from. I'm afraid of roll inside the compartment after I install my block and have been curious about that. I'm really glad you brought it up..............any ideas where to buy them? Thanks.
