C1,C2,C3 MicroFiche - Does anyone know how to read them?

While researching some info for my car I was looking at my cd copy of the entire parts list for c1,c2,c3 corvettes. Someone else has it for free at www.carfiche.com (Just a new version than mine)
Just like this guy website, I'm wonder how you find part number by reading the location number. For example: For the 64 Vette, I need to know the size and p/n for the bolt for frame mount number #1 using this document.
1. I went to fiche 4 J 4 and found the frame (I found this by thumbing thru mine, god know how).
2. I then found the picture at 5 G 8 (The picture is not good, but it point to item #35 as Bolt 5/16 x 14 x 2 7/8) and then it has a number 8.900 (on my cd it has 8.921)
3. How do you find out what the part number is using the 8.900 location?
4. I thought it would be in chapter 8, paragraph 900 but I can't find it.
Does anyone know how to read and locate parts with this?

It's a whole lot easier to look for a Chevrolet P&A30B Corvette Parts Book on eBay than screw around trying to find the same information on an unorganized CD; have had mine for years (600 pages, including all illustrations, 1953-73). Useful for researching applications, but little else, as 99% of the parts were discontinued 25 years ago.

Do you happen to know the ISBN # on the book. On Ebay there are many books concerning Corvette parts. None are listed as Chevrolet P&A30B Corvette Parts Book. The ISBN would get me the exact book. Thanks in advance...

Hi Guys,

I guess this is sorta related. I'm wanting to build scale models of C2's. The kits I currently have don't have a lot of detail, especially of the frames. My question is, are there engineering (3-view) drawings availble of the frames and bird cages? The only thing I have to go by now is the isometric drawing of the frame in the shop manual.

There's no ISBN number on any GM parts book - they were never published outside of GM or offered for sale; keep watching eBay for a "P&A30B" Corvette parts manual. The last one published was in 1973.

I've never seen any dimensioned frame or birdcage drawings outside of GM, other than the dimensioned plan and side views shown in Section 2 of the Chassis Service Manuals. I worked with detail drawings of each individual part and with full-size layouts of the complete assemblies when my group designed and built the welding and assembly tooling, but none of those drawings or layouts were ever made available outside of GM.

Most likely by measuring an original frame.

They're made about ten miles from me - Neil bought all the original stamping dies, welding assembly jigs, and checking fixtures from GM many years ago.

Well, that explains it John.

It's not as easy as just measuring an existing frame. You'd need the fixtures and jigs to align all the components. It's also a big help if you have original drawings to make sure everything lines up and fits together properly. I'm wanting to build scale brass frames for corvette models, that's why I am looking for detailed info about the frames. I've built scaled brass steam engines and figured why not build scale corvette frames in brass too.
