Distributor Placement

Well the shop has finally gotten the motor put back in the car. They adjusted the fuel pressure to 47 pounds and it is running fine. Now, the distributor the way it is now a part of the accel coil I have is underneath the rubber that the hood lays on. The guy there said that the whole thing is off a tooth.......

. He said that he needs to take the whole distributor out and move it over a tooth and drop it back in. They set it at 6 degrees advanced with the timing wire unplugged. Thanks for any input.

Just to add...

The car has an accel super coil. Well when they set the base timing with the EST wire unpluged they moved the distributor cap and set it. Well the coil isn't on straight, in other words it is twisted in relation to the motor. I dont know why this would be a problem, because I adjusted mine to set the timing and it isn't parallel with the engine. What I dont understand is they plan on taking the whole distributor out, not changing the timing and moving it back a tooth, so that the coil is parallel with the engine. How is this possible? I didn't think you could just move the distributor a tooth, and have the car run find. Wont the car ran really bad, because the firing order will be all messed up in relation to the cam. I am not an expert on every aspect of the engine, but just moving the distributor a tooth is not a correct.

Well I talked to them again, and he said that he has already moved it and rea adjusted the timing and the car is idling and running fantastic, and the new knock sesnor is working, they put it up on the lift and tapped the block and the computer did retard the timing 3 degrees. Is there anything I can buy that would monitor the knock sensor, and show me when it retards the timing, and how much would it be if there is something.

Glad they worked out the distributor problem. I've never heard of a knock sensor monitor, other than your ear. If your engine knocks, you'll know unless you've got the tunes cranked up so loud that you can't hear the engine!!
