Default Power Antenna, Repair or Replace?

What you do if your power antenna didn't work? Repair it or replace it? I can hear mine running after the ignition is turned off, but there is no response from the antenna, as far as moving. I know they make repair kits, but I'm wondering how involved they are, or would it just be easier to replace the whole unit? Any suggetions or ideas appreciated. Thanks.

I would replace it. It is a lot of work to get it in and out and worth having a new part in there when you are done.

I agree w/bnhynum; replace the unit. This was not a fun job in my '84; I wouldn't want to do it more than once.

That's the way I was leaning, a new one. If it's not easy, why make it more difficult repairing it, and putting it back in. If I repaired them for living, it would probably be easy. I prefer to do it the one time. Thanks for your replies.

It's just as difficult to replace the mast as it would be to install a new antenna. The mast is cheaper, and brand new, just like the mast in a new antenna would be. If the motor is still running, you can save money by doing the mast because I'll tell you the motor will run and run and run, it will probably outlive the car itself. Even if you buy a new antenna, the mast will eventually break on it as well, after many years of course but it will.

I have given both repairing and replacing some consideration. Seems there are choices out there. I guess I'll just have to choose one. Right now it's a toss up. Thanks for your suggestion.

I repaired mine what a pain in the a**. About 6 months later a bent the mast unloading a cooler oh well. Good luck on either choice.

I replaced mine and it was a bit of work. Not too much, but like it was said earlier, you would not want to do it again. I would suggest purchasing the hidden antenna kit from either Corvette Central or Ecklers. This plugs into your antenna connection and sits in the rear trim area of the vehicle. I would just then unplug the antenna relay.

Repair was not all that bad. Done it twice after all these years. Keep your mast clean and the dirt stays out of the drive section.
