67 Alternator removal..help

I'm trying to remove the alternator from my 67 427...I have both of the bolts out but the alternator won't come loose from the alt bracket. There is a sleeve sticking out from the back from where the nut went on the bottom bolt. It has a slot running down the length of it. This appears to be what is catching and holding the alt on the alt bracket. I removed the bracket from the engine and now need a good way to remove this sleeve without damaging it.
I've already tried putting a screwdriver down the inside to see if I can catch a lip and tap it out...no luck. Anybody ever have this sleeve in the bracket before?

Also, I'm looking for a good replacement for my alt (it's a 1100750 dated 7C17) until I can get someone to rebuild the original. John, I've looked for a rebuild at all of the places I can think of, no one seems to have one..so far.

Not sure of how to get that out,But you should be able to remove all of the brackets and just remove the alternator completely with the bushing still inside of the alternator. I have a 1966 427 with NO AIR and power steering,my alternator is on the drive side.I think I may have a good alternator you could borrow untill yours is rebuilt. what is the build date of your car just make sure its the correct alternator prior to having it rebuilt. If you need the alternator let me know ill have to climb up on a shelt to look for it

That split sleeve is just pushed up against the back of the ear on the alternator by the washer and nut on the bolt - only a friction fit in the hole in the bracket, so the torque on the nut can move it.

Put some PB Blaster on the sleeve and work it loose toward the rear with a pair of channellocks - it WILL move once you break it loose, and the alternator will separate from its grip.

Look in the Yellow Pages under "Auto Electric" or "Starter" for a local rebuilder; they're usually mom-and-pop operations. If you can't find one, just get a rebuilt to use temporarily while you send your original to Pirkle.
