Default Tie rod clamps C1

Can anyone tell me how to properly install tie rod clamps on a C1? I have them installed but even after tightening the clamps to point that the 2 halves of the clamp are touching the tie rods are still easily turned by hand. Do I line up the slits in the rod with the opening in the clamp? Could these be mismatched rods and clamps? Any thoughts appreciated.

Sounds like you may have a mismatch of sleeves-vs.-clamps; the ears of the clamps shouldn't touch at the proper torque (12-18 ft-lbs). The position of the slot in the sleeve relative to the opening in the clamp doesn't matter, EXCEPT that the slot should NOT be located within the opening of the clamp.
