Default Hazy spot on black coupe...

My black 94 coupe has what looks like a "hazy" spot above the rear license plate. It is only noticeable in direct light and at certain angles. Close inspection looks like the prevoius owner attempted to buff a very slight scratch. It doesn't look to be through the clear coat and I would like to polish it out myself. It's really not that noticeable BUT it drives me nuts because I KNOW IT'S THERE! Any recommendations on what clear coat safe product would take out the haze and bring back the shine ?

You are doing this by hand? If so, you might start out with a product like Meguiar's Scratch-X. It is easy to get locally and is made for that type of thing.

Do you think I should use my buffer? If I do... what would you recommend to use with it? I had planned on doing it the old fashion way since I'm not crazy about the thought using a buffer on either of my vettes. Thanks for the tip about the Scratch-X....I've seen it but never had the need to use it, and will give it a try if I decide to go with the elbow grease method. I know I can control that. Thanks again.

How big is the spot? You could try a buffer and like a 4-6" pad if you felt comfortable with that. I'd try by hand first and see how it goes. If you aren't crazy about using a buffer, I'd say don't.

You were right! A little Scratch-X....maybe 10 minutes of hand polishing......looks good as new. Thanks Aurora40!
