Default 1970 LT-1 if real and worth restoring?

Hi, This is my first posting and I find the information about 1970 LT-1's extremely helpful on trying to decode a car to tell if it's the real deal. I recently came across a 1970 convert and the guy that owns it has very little information on it. First red flag. Some of the numbers are good, still checking others. The car was a late 1970 build #14000 +, trim tag indicates July 02. What would a likely correct engine suffix be, CTK, CTR or CTU? Also in talking to other LT-1 owners they say those cars were mostly if not all transistor ignition and should have a pulse amplification box, or at least the three holes where it was, mounted to the front of the drivers side front wheelwell, and this car doesn't. Another red flag. I don't know if that means it never had it or the fender has been replaced. I can tell the drivers side rear quarter has been replaced but the frame looks o.k. I need to go back and get cylinder head and carb.#s. I was able to peek down the left side of the gas tank filler, I pulled the rubber back a little to see the remnants of a tank sticker, however it was covered in dirt, dust so I could'nt read it even with a mirror. I will try again but I'm wondering if this is all worth it. The car would need a body off, or frame off restoration to bring it back. He's asking $15K as is. I was glad to see replacement parts are available because it doesn't have the right alternator, distributer, and other things.

Default Need help in decode of 1970 LT-1

I am posting this myself because I forgot to mention the car has basically sat in a garage and only used sparingly for the last approx 20 yrs. as evident by old mouse nest under wiper door and acorn shells on intake. The car does have correct dash badging, although from what I've read this is fairly easy to replace, but it does look like it hasn't been touched in 20 yrs. Tach is correct, redline at 6500 rpm. Is tach easy to replace if this isn't a real LT-1? Like I said car needs work. Has been repainted poorly and if I buy it would like to put it back to it's original Bridgehampton blue 979. Need some opinions from LT-1 owners on whether this car is worth resurrecting and any ideas what I may be in for.
Thanks
LT-1 wannabe(?)

First of all, the engine in a late 70 LT-1 such as this one should be CTK. CTU was used on early 70 LT-1s. No cars should have CTR. All LT-1s had TI which included the amp and a specific coil. Just about anything can be faked. You need to look at everything on the car to try and verify if it is an LT-1. Seeing the tank sticker would help. Remember also that over 34 years many parts have probably been replaced so if some stuff is wrong it may still be an LT-1. Post other numbers from the car here and I or someone else can look them up for you. Also, pics will help. As for is it worth it? If the car is an original numbers matching 70 LT-1 vert that is mostly complete and the frame is solid, I'd think that $15K was not a bad price and the car is definately worth resurrecting.

Thanks rainman, I will try to get some numbers and post them. Are the cylinder head casting numbers and casting date exposed or under the valve covers? Trying to schedule some time with the owner to get back under the hood. I am trying to justify buying this hopefully real '70 LT-1 that will need substantial work vs. a sweet '71 non LT-1 that is mostly ready to go. From what I am reading here the LT-1 passion runs deep.

If you pull the oil fill cap you can see the valve numbers and casting date. I've owned two LT-1s a 70 and a 71. I recently sold the 70 and wish I hadn't. IMO LT-1s are special and some of the best C-3s.
