Default Gas Gauge Problems

I have a 94 Corvette and I ran out of gas yesterday. The gas gauge showed a half of tank of gas. After filling the tank I drove it for awhile. Now the gauge shows no gas remaining and the "reserve" now shows.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Rich

I had a similar issue years ago. The fuel level sender unit stuck and then later fell down. I ended up replacing the fuel level sender unit in the tank - which includes everything else also. Not cheap as I recall.

Thanks for the info! Yes I'm sure it's not going to be cheap.

Thanks again!

Rich

Had trouble with my 88, it stayed on full. Found the connector at the fill neck was just dirty. If you pull off the fuel door and remove the rubber boot around the neck, you can see the connections. It may be reached by removing the tag. If not, it's probable the sender unit in the tank.

Mine did the same thing once. Took it out, cleaned it and put it back in. Now works perfect!

Try cleaning it before you replace it. You have nothing to lose!

Agree! I'd try pulling the unit out, as previously delineated and undoing the 10 bolts that hold the unit in, carefully slide the unit out, then hooking up the electrical part and seeing if it changes as you change the position of the float.
Hook the abttery up when it's out to see if the sensor is working.

You're going to have to pull it anyway, in the event you need to replace it.

Be Safe in doing this, No lit cigars, unhook battery, etc...
