Default Transmission vs. surging at 1000 Rpm

I have had a engine miss (surging around the 1000 RPM) and have checked out various avenues, plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap, new fuel pump, new battery, only thing that I haven't replaced is the EGR Valve. Not I have been told that the transmission is shifting out of sink, Question, is there a possibility that there is a transmission problem causing the surging around the 1000 RPM, need the expert for this to tell me just how the transmission works at what RPM.

i'm guessing this is on your 85? sounds like a vacuum leak.

start tracing vacuum lines and have a can of carb cleaner handy and spray the area you think it's at and the car will surge alittle more.

been awhile since i traced vacuum leaks and if memory serves me correctly this is how my uncle taught me.

good luck.

Yes it is on the 1985 Vette, after replacing the battery and painting the Vette, I noticed the engine missing, surging, up to that point I had not replaced or removed anything except to clean the air filter. By chance is there a vacum line going to the transmission. Doc

no there is no vacuum line going to the tranny. TPI cars will surge alittle once you start doing mods to them like mine. this is because the front 4 runner tubes are pulling more air than the back 2. once rpms come up the surge will stop. if your car is bone stock it shouldn't be noticable. a vacuum line somewhere on the motor might of broke due to old age.

The 1985 Vette is stock, no modifications, enging surging started after changing battery and paint job, I painted the Vette myself, so I know that I did not unhook vacumn lines, also I took the Vette to the dealer and after a new fuel pump and one vacuum line fixed it seem to have miminal surging, but after driving from Michigan to Florida I have the surging back. A shop that specilizes in Vettes took it for a test drive and felt that the tranny was shifting imperfect. I am still searching for answers, is there a connection.Doc
