My Corvette(s):
Default new differential

Hello
I am new to this forum and also a new corvette owner. I have a 1985 vet, with an automatic.
Have a slight problem, I just blew up my differential last week, looks like the pinion gear destroyed itself.
Can anyone out there tell me where I can buy a used or rebuilt rear end for a resonable price.
By the way, I have 3.07 gears in it and everywhere I look for parts for a dana 36 they do not show them.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try this place, they ship internationally, take credit cards and came highly recommended to me. I bought an 'Information Center' from them and was happy with the part and service.

If I were you I would upgrade to a Dayna 44 I believe is what they are called. They came with the manual transmission vettes. They are a ton stronger then the 36's. Someone will see this and know more then I do so sit tight.

Justin,

If he is sticking with the 3.07's, I think the 36 would be fine. Anything higher than that and he would have to go with the 44 unit.

The units themselves are not that expensive. It's the installation that will get you. There is almost no room for error and it's recommended that you have a shop do the install for you.

This company is referenced quite often as a good and reliable source.

You might try a local Corvette club though and see what info you can get there. The 36's are frequently changed out by owners for 44's as I have done when folks put more power to there A4's. You can often oick up whole rear ends in good condition from $200 - $400 depending on the gearing and condition. Lot's of 2:59's out there and 3:07's come up every so often.

If you put in the whole batwing and pumpkin, it's really an easy job to do if you're any kind of wrench at all. Good luck and welcome to CAC

It turns out not to be such a bad job after all, eh? I thought I'd have a handful there when I first jumped into the job, but as it turned out it ain't too bad.
