Car Wax

i have a 93 quasar blue (slight mettalic) corvette. i have been using meguires wax but have noticed while it shines well it doesn't add any depth to it as it may with darker colored cars. i'm looking for more (WOW). anyone have any suggestions on wax's particular to lighter or metallic paints. thanks

There are several threads dealing with wax. Try a "search" under "wax" and "Zaino". I have found, at times, that information can be gotten by calling the company who manufactures a product. (different wax companies) They may have a different product to take care of a need other than the one being used. Of course if they only manuf one product they will probably say "it's the greatest". Possibly a quality paint shop could offer suggestions.

Go to Ibiz.com This is absolutely the best wax I have ever used, including the ones mentioned already. I've used Zaino, no comparison. Kind of expensive;however, you'll save in the long run from all of the trial and error expenses. I used to use Mcguires myself and actually liked it. Now I have found this wax to be the very best. From my understanding the dealers use it on their c5s. Give it a try.

I have a Polo Green 96 that I had used to use Meguires and Zymol on. They were ok, but I finally gave Zaino a try because of all of the buzz about it; now I am in love.

Polo Green is a dark green, Zaino has added a noticeable depth to my cars paint. The easy on, easy off application is the another thing that has sold me on Zaino. The initial applications take time but once your base coats are on, wax as you see fit.

Zaino is pricey, but I feel that I am getting my monies worth when I purchase their products, so I don’t mind shelling out the money.

I have read good things here on the CAC about Meguires NXT but I have not tried it. You may want to look into that as well.

That Quasar Blue is great color, I see a guy with a Quasar 93 coupe in my area from time to time.

Meguiar's NXT

Put on about four coats and it's an amazing effect. Deep, dark and wet looking.
Can't describe it exactly - looks almost molten!!!!!

I gotta go with Zaino. I have tried many different types of wax but Zaino gives a deeper "thicker" look to the paint. They say Zaino is best on darker colors but I found my white 88 to even have more depth. I started using other Zaino products to maximize shipping costs. The leather products are superior as are the tire shine. The tire shine is non greasy, wont sling off at all and lasts a long time. They also have this plastic polish that made my console shine and look brighter. All around I am happy with Zaino.

I was a Zaino guy but I'll agree with the above...the more I put this wax on the deeper the shine and the "molten" term is dead on. I've never had so many people, including the wife actually comment on the shine until I used the NXT. I'll put an NXT wax job next to a Zaino car any day.....it would be interesting to have two of the same cars matched up just to see the results.

Zaino lasts longer than most all waxes. By that I mean if you use the wash and shoot a little 6 on your finish it outdoes a complete wax job.

I have seen over 8 months with the initial mulltiple coatings. Wax would be long gone. Red paint really responds to Zaino. The longevity of the finish is an unexpected benefit considering the superior look of the product.

One thing to note is that a lot of folks who report on Z's durability use Z6 to maintain it. But when they compare to another product, it's just the product itself on the paint.

I'm not saying Z isn't durable, as I've found it to be good stuff, I just wanted to point that out. I could Z6 a car with clean, prepped paint and it would then bead and seem protected. If I did it after every wash, you'd think it was really well sealed/waxed, when it's just the Z6. Even a soft carnauba wax could be made to seem to last 8 months if I maintained it with a carnauba quick detailer like Pinnacle Crystal Mist, or EF Clear Pearl, or even EO Wax-As-U-Dry, it will continue to bead for a long time.

If you want a lot of gloss from your paint, it's best to get that gloss before you use a final protectant product. Glazes and gloss enhancing polishes are great for adding gloss to the paint, and a final protectant product should maintain or improve upon this gloss and reflectivitiy.

Yeah it would be great to throw a coat of 2 on there each time but I can't tell the difference after just washing it. Looks like it did from the start 8 or 9 months ago with 5 5s and 5 2s. People pointed out the crystalline shine of the paint Saturday.

All the products have the same Zaino aroma. Just washing it puts down more protection. I love it.

Also BRZMAN, you didn't mention what you are using currently? Which Meguiar's wax? And what do you do prior to applying it? You mentioned a light color, and it's hard to get depth on light colors as the paint doesn't have inherent depth.

If you want to stay in the Meguiar's range, NXT is very glossy with good depth. And using #81 Hand Polish or Step 2 Deep Crystal Polish first will add a lot more under whatever you use.

I personally like #16 a lot, and it's good for shine and metallic pop. Here is a shot of #80 Speed Glaze, then #16. But a week later I "spit-shined" the car with #16 and Last Touch which is what really brought out the pop you can see on the front fender:

In short, there are many things you can do or try, and by many manufacturers. Knowing what you are doing now and what you are willing to try and/or buy would help with suggestions.
