81 Cat Converter question

Hi all,

While doing exhaust work this weekend , I noticed on the bottom of the Cat a circular lid.
Is this to clean out the converter?
Do i just open the lid and let the junk fall out?
Do i put new stuff back in?

Are you aware that 17 years age there was a recall on many GM cat converters? The '81 Corvette was on the list.

wasnt aware of that recall...nothing I can do about it now ,

Just something for the NCRS guys to think about...most '81s don't have their original converters.

Take it off and put a two-stage Cat back on. You won't regret it. My two-stage still passes the insane MD sniffer test with flying colors.
