Default alternator question

Guys..help, I need an alternator for my 67 427/400 a/c with TI. MidAmerica sells a Bosch unit but I need to know if I need anything special since the car has TI.

I'll just use this one til I have my original rebuilt, but I need one kinda fast to get in shape for Carlisle.

Referrals on where to get the right unit? Thanks all.

I wouldn't recommend a Bosch reman alternator. Take a look at:

You may be better off with an ACDelco.

Dennis

try calling Tony at Tony's Corvette's (where Rick's LADY was done) and see if he can give you a recommendation on where your original alternator might be able to get rebuilt by Carlisle - if it's possible to get yours done in time it would save you having to spend on on a temporary replacement unit.

There's nothing electrically "special" about the 696 alternator used with T.I. - it just has a slightly higher amperage rating (5 more amps) than the one used with standard point ignition. A parts-store rebuilt will work just fine while you get your (rare and valuable) 696 rebuilt.

Dennis,

have you talked with John Pirkle? he is the MAN for alternators - he will be at Carlisle, and I am sure if you talk to him prior, and he has an alternator for you, he will bring it to you at Carlisle - save you some shipping costs - he will rebuild yours also - typically his alternators run around $175 - $200, and to rebuild yours around $150

contact John at:

Maybe getting to talk to Pirkle will be easier at Carlisle than trying to reach him on the phone...every time I try, it's busy.

Update on the alternator.....part number is 1100750 61A and date stamp is 7C17.

c5vetter, I'll look for you at Carlisle and all you other guys too...Rick?

Oops, I missed the fact that you have A/C . Definitely check with John Pirkle - he's done several for me in the last couple of years - nobody does it better than he does.
