2003 RED CORVETTE
Default C5 trade in values on C6

I am pondering the purchase of a new C6 as many of you are. I am wondering if any of you have heard or experienced what I have regarding dealer offers on C5's.

I visited with three dealers in town, two have given me numbers and the third is waiting on me to come by. For a 2003 coupe, excellent condition torch red-black interior /automatic/performance axle/1sb/pollished wheels/side molding/12cd/ both roof package and 21000 miles, they will only give me $25,000 to $28,000 in trade for a new C6 at msrp. After pursistance one dealer said if I order the vette now he would hold the price at 28,000 until I receive the vette, but he needs to know now.

Here is the rub, they say trade-in prices are lower because they expect everyone to trade-in their C5's and dealers will have a glut of used C5's on dealer lots.

fwiw..I would suggest selling the car on your own..maybe to a friend? and then having the dealer selling you the C6 do an "in and out" whereby you sell the car to the dealer and he sells the car directly to your buyer..

You get the tax benefit...the buyer gets a great car...you make a few dollars more on the sale...you pay the dealer a hundred or so for the paperwork and if the dealers smart he offers financing to the new buyer to boot..

I would not suggest selling a 2003 mint C5 for that kind of money that the dealer is offering..unless you just got to have a C6..

The dealers might be right on wholesale dollars but I wouldn't do it..

Sell on your own and run the paperwork through the dealership to get a better price and the tax deduction...

Thats what I would do.

Good luck..and don't get caught having to have a C6 and giving your beautiful C5 away..

kccgeo.......Everything mentioned above relates to my C4 also.I've been wanting to upgrade but just felt like I was being robbed. It's funny though, when I bought my vette it didn't matter all that much,I guess it must be an "aging" thing.

I just bought a 97 Coupe for just that reason with all the discounts the big dealers are offering the prices are way down. A good place to look for prices is E-bay by looking at the bids it will give you a good Idea of whats selling and whats not. My opinion (guess ) it that the prices will raise again next spring and then level out. I wanted a six speed coupe for a daily driver and got mine for just under $20,000. It has 64,000 miles new Perrellis on Z06 rims and has had the paint touched up I am very pleased with it
