Default were seat belts an option

I have a 64 coupe and was wondering if seat belts were an option or standard equipment. Thanks

Not sure, but I can tell you that seat belts became a mandatory item in 1967. which is not to mean that a manufacturer may not have offered them either as standard or optional prior to 1967.

Seat belts were standard in 64 but there were no shoulder belts until 66. In 66 the shoulder belts were optional. With the introduction of the shark in 68, shoulder and lap belts became standard in coupes but shoulder belts were optional in ragtops.

Lap belts were standard equipment on Corvettes starting in 1958; prior to that, they were a dealer-installed accessory item.
