I was wondering how many hours a night others need to feel right the next day. I feel handicapped in that I need 8 hours of uninterupted sleep.
I figure sleeping is just a waste of time...I am usually in bed at 11 and up at 4...I like to slip into my day slowly, have coffee, get the morning paper, take the sports section into the smallest room in the house...I hate being rushed...then the whole day seems to leasurly drift by.
I get 6-7 per night, however, I do sneak in a quick 20-30 minute nap in the afternoons to refresh myself.
Last fall and last winter, I was routinely running on 3-5 hours a sleep at night. I was dog tired all the time but it was worth it for a woman! :L
Usually about 6 to 7 per night....life's too short to spend too much of it sleeping. I 'll get all I want when the parties over.

7 1/2 to 8. Preferably 8.
I'm a b**** to be around me when I've had any less.. or any more, for that matter. :(
I really envy people who don't need a lot.
6-10 just depends on when I go down and when I have to get moving the next day!
Glad you explained this poll... At first I had to wonder why the questions about our sleeping habits! hahaha
I normaly go to bed between midnight and 1:00 a.m., then get up at 5:30. So get 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 hours a night.

Hello, this is truly an interesting question. i average 4 hours of sleep a night. i have tried to go to bed earlier.no luck. for me to get any more that 4, it's either a pill or a glass of wine,or worst total exhaustion.
after my brief stay in the hospital, one of the stress problems was my sleeping habits.i still have problems changing tho i know it would be better for my heart!
i work 5 pm to 2 am....home and in bed, sleeping usually by 4:30-5:00...then just as i doze off...the sun comes up..and the neighbors all get going....i have tryed everything from having a fan to a radio to aluminum foil on the glass...like Elvis did....no luck...i try to nap before i go to work, usually just relax then the cycle starts again.....besides this , when im in bed for more than 4 or 5 hrs , my back starts to kill me....i sound like im complaining....i am!..i need more sleep!

I have found that I operate best with 4-5 hours a night. If I get more than 5 I need 8-10 or more at times. So for me, less is better.

I try to get to bed between 11-12, but at least one night a week I'm up after midnight. Regardless when I go to bed, I wake up a little after 5am, but lately haven't been getting up til closer to 6am. I feel better the earlier I get up.

I work 11-7 so I ususally sleep 4-5 hours after work then try to get a nap before I go to work. Monday morning I may sleep for 8 though. Third shift with a Sunday night start-up makes for a crazy sleep sceduale, but I like it and have been doing it for years.

I used to do that shift with Friday and Saturday off. It just gets to you after a while; you start missing your friends and family. I found that when I worked that shift; I couldn't come home and go straight to bed. I would go to bed around 11am or so and sleep until 7pm. I got good sleep but the working hours almost killed me!
:beer That one is for being on the toughest shift!

I average about 4-5. I have to get up early and get to work and then I end up working until about midnight. Of course when I am not deployed I average about 5-6.
My sleep schedule varies depending on what's going on. When I'm working "regular shifts" I get about 6 hours per night. When I'm working "projects" I get whatever I can grab- a couple hours here, a couple hours there. On days off, I usually try for 8 hours but having two kids and a dog means I rarely get all 8 in a row.

I average 4-5 hours a night.Although sometimes I can pull a 12 hour nap(once a month).I have terrible working hours due to the fact that I am self-employed and being so I try to overachieve ALWAYS!!!....I guess I'll catch up on my sleep some day when I end up in the hospital.....Even there, come to think of it,I won't get any because they put our patients in hallways due to lack of beds...:( ........So much for FREE health care services.

I usually go to bed around 11pm and get up at 4 am for work. This schedule works great for weekend because sleeping late means getting up at 6 or 7 then I have an early start on the day and still feel good because I slept late.
I get 6 to 6-1/2 hours of sleep each night. (I work an hour away from home) I get sleepy and have noticed that my typical energy level is not what it should be. My body runs it's best on about 8 hours though.
It may seem like a waste of time with all of that sleep, however with the proper amount of sleep, I run non-stop all day long. From cutting grass, to building stuff in the garage. With less sleep, I may complete a chore or 2, but then must stop and rest, and then the day slips by.
Gimme 8!!
I average anywhere from 4-7 hours per night, although it's usually interupted, as I seem to wake up twice a night, normally right around the same time every night!!!
I used to be able to sleep for 10-12 hours without a problem when I was a smoker, and my reduced sleeping pattern began the very week I quit which was about 5 years ago. Has this happened to anyone else out there??? Has anyone else required much less sleep after they quit smoking? It was also nice to see that I'm not the only one who wakes up with their backs/side breaking after a night's sleep!

Exactly 4 hours and 40 minutes per night. In bed at 11 PM and up for work at 3:40 AM. Between work, kids and their sports, and the honey-do list, there ain't much time left for sleep. On my days off I get about 5 - 5 1/2 hours.

I get 5-6 hours, but I could sleep 12 hours per night if it wouldn't result in bankruptcy and homelessness (or Vette-lessness :eek )! Sleep is my vice, and I like to make the most of the experience with perfumed high thread count sheets, loads of down pillows, etc. Only problem is, as with any vice, I will sneak in a little sleep whenever I can. My husband is really getting impatient with me falling asleep in the movie theater..but it's dark, it's cold, what the heck!!

8 hours minimum.
I work out at the gym a lot, so my body Needs rest. If I don't get that much sleep during the week, I'll end up sleeping 12 hours or so on the weekend to make up for it.
Its not like I time myself to see how much sleep I've got, I'll know how tired I am, and will fall asleep at my desk if I skimp too much.
Besides, I really need my beauty sleep. (Maybe it'll help one day....)

Since my return from Vietnam in December 1967, I have not been able to sleep more than 5 hours in anyone night. I do take cat naps which would explain things, but Vietnam was a place I couldn't sleep, went out on seek and destroy missions two or three nights per week, well here is the result so many years later.

Wow, I am surprised at how many people get only 5 hours sleep. I'll have to try this - just think of how much more can be accomplished! I work best on 6 1/2 but this summer I've gotten lazy and now I am getting around 8. Too much - I wake up lethargic.... need to cut that out!

The more the better. Ever since I started working from home, I found that I need about 7 hours at night with about 30 min nap apres lunch.

I rarely get more than 1 hour at a time due to a crushed ankle that never completely healed correctly, if I move it , the pain wakes me up, but I try REALLY hard to get 6-7 hours total if I can manage too!
it hurts 24/7/365 but I live with it! since I can get around Im better off than some and greatful its not worse!
Sleep is really overrated. Four hours and I am good to go. Eight hours? How can anyone do that and not feel guilty. My two cents.;LOL
