After seeing the pricing, what C6 option seems way out of line and way overpriced to you?

I agree that the options do seem overpriced. However, I am pleasantly surprised by the base price. I expected at least $50K.

You forgot to include a choice for not feeling that the car is overpriced. There is a fancy name for this sort of thing which escapes me right now. The idea is that you frame the questions in such a way that disagreement is impossible or the question assumes the point of inquiry, i.e. "are you still beating your wife?"

I voted against the Nav system. But if you want one, the Vette price is reasonable. It's a $5,000 option in Mercedes SUV's.

Bottom line, the C6 is still the best value around for a sports car.

Two examples:
(1) Car and Driver did a story on modified Rice Burners. The winner cost over $60,000 and couldn't out run a stock C5.

(2) The 360 Ferrari. A V8 Ferrari at about a three Vette price that is slower than a Z06 and slightly faster than a stock C5.

The claim that other cars can be cheaply modified to exceed the performance of a Vette is unfounded. See (1) above. Or look at the Americn LeMans series. The C5R dominates (that's not strong enough, OWNES) this series against V-12 exotics whose street versions approach $500,000. Ferrari, Lambo, Jag, Sallen S7, etc lose damn near every time to a pushrod V8. At the recent Ohio race, the class winning C5R came in 3rd overall.

For those who don't follow this series, this means that the GTS class Corvette beat some P1 single seat, enclosed wheel, pure race cars.

BTW, the Porsches, race versions of the $200,000+ GT2 street cars, run in GT, a class down and much slower.

So far this year, the Corvette team has won in class all three races including the 24 hours of LeMans in France. This is an ancient design, 16 valve, pushrod engine against 60 valve, double overhead cam, factory racing team 456 series Ferrari's. The street version of these cars sells for over $400,000. Did I mention that the Vipers in these races are back markers?

Speaking of Vipers, this piece of barbarian transport has a built-in frying griddle. It's the door sill. Check the Car & Driver test where they cooked an egg and bacon breakfast on the door sill. After the acceleration tests, they went for a second helping and burned the bacon. The door sill was too hot.

Yes, the Viper is faster than a Vette. It's also not as pricey as the Ferrari, Lambo group, but it does go for a little under $95,000 after taxes while a Z06 is $54,000 on the same basis (in my area) and gets a bonus for having a built-in grill.

So, is the Vette overpriced?
No.

Color roof on Coupe --- free (standard equipment) -- OK deal
Transparent roof -- give up color roof, add $750 -- duh
Dual roof package -- buy color roof back for $650, total package cost $1400 -- double duh!!!

Go with the painted ones and then pick up the polished ones later at a cheaper price.

I sat in one yesterday and read the airbag warning sticker on the sun visor. "Children should be placed in the back seat," it said. . .

I think that makes the least sense! :D

Some responding to this pole are pretty damn ignorant.

Tied for second is: the car is overpriced...that's in spite of GM reducing the Corvette base price for 2005 compared to 2004.

You guys are like...out there.

One that has bugged me even on the C5 - Mag Red II is a $750 dollar option on the Corvette - yet, a friend of mine just bought a GMC Envoy in Mag Red II and the color is a $95 option!!! Does it take less paint for a 4X4 SUV or something??? What am I missing?

GTThat and Millinium Yellow, they say it's the tint clear coat that increases the cost of painting those colors.
OK, so don't paint the car, lets see how much more THAT would cost. I can see the order sheet now:

RPO code XXX unpainted body work... ADD:$1500.00 :L :L

Actually, I think there was an unpainted option available wawwwy back when, mid 60s I believe. Maybe Hib or somebody else might know. I heard talk back then that one could order a Corvette that would come in primer gray and you have it painted as desired. Maybe that was for racing teams when Chevy had their fingers in the racing community. Anybody else hear of this in the mid 60s? Or am I "out there" tonight. :crazy

If you think the price of the standard C6 is high dont bother even thinking about the Z06. Estimated price $75 - 90k and with (thanks to Bush) the price of gas going higher
the fun of driving isnt so much fun any more is it.
