Nashville/Bowling Green Corvette 50th Celebration DVD
CARSHOW DVD
It's a nice DVD to have, whether you were there or not. :upthumbs

At times you wished the photographer was a bit slower when panning across the sea of Corvettes, because I found myself constantly looking in the background to see if there was anyone I knew, who made it to the camera's lens. Alas though, I recognized no one, nor for that matter, did I recognize anyone's car, although I'm sure that one or two of you who attended the festivities, and particpated in the parades, were caught on film (?) digitized (?); you know what I mean. ;)
There were a few of the "star" cars there that weren't at the Monterey Historics last year, or least if they were there last year I didn't see them. This DVD showed me, for the first time I think, the Astro I and Astro II Corvettes in full color and from all angles. I think the cars they had at Monterey were more focused on the racing aspect, and not as much from the show side of things, hence the reason for them not attending the Historics when the Corvette marque was honored.
Of course there was the requisite showing of the AeroVette and the Tiger Shark, but the gist of this DVD is focused on the personal ownership, and the pleasure derived from having a Corvette family with whom one can identify. There are interviews galore throughout the hour-long DVD, mostly from people who reside in the southern states for some reason. :t I was hoping for a little more diverse spectrum of the Corvette society, and to that end they did include an interview with one person, hailing from Australia. One gentleman stated that in two days he had made friends with people from England, Germany and The Netherlands. I wonder where the West Coast contingent was? I know we had quite a few of us attend from out here.
You had to love some of the personal Corvette projects though, especially the Z53; a '53 style body, with mods, sitting on a late-model Z06 chassis. It was still covered in gray primer, that's how fresh it was. Nice Corvette!
I noted with some disappoinment though, that others have emulated the Z06 badging with their individual modifications (like me) substituting the factory lettering. Mine, who I'd like to think as being the first, uses the oval/bar-shaped layout with Z51 substituting for the Z"06". I saw a Shark in the DVD that used LS1 as the substitute letters. Gee, I wonder what was under that hood? :D
All-in-all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this DVD to anyone who has access to a DVD player. I am one of those whose only DVD player resides on a laptop, so I imagine I never even fully experienced the beauty of what this DVD has to offer, not to mention the fact that the sound would be much more fulfilling if listened to on a home theater system.
For a mere $9.95, you can own a piece of Corvette history, and for all you know you may be in the picture! This is a great show. It has fantastic cars and some footage you may have never seen before.
