Problems with a power steering control valve

This Sunday I was able to get some time in the garage to do some wrenching.I had planned on installing new power steering hoses,a replacement powersteering control valve,and re-installing my exhaust manifolds.

about 18 months ago I had purchased a new lone star power steering control valve from a vendor.When I had purchased it I checked it all out and it looked excactly the same.I painted it black as my J.M said to and put it on a shelf. Well when I was connecting the hoses.The high pressure line from the pump to the control valve would not tighten up.I could tighten the hose fitting all the way up and the hose would still be loose and swivel.(of course this was the last fitting on the valve I had to do)Anyways I removed the valve and what I had found was that the small brass fitting inside the valve was set too far down so that the hose fitting would sholder prior to the hose end hitting this fitting.I easely wasted 3 hours monkeying around with this part.I had to re-install my old one back in the car.About a year ago I had made a decsition to re use all of my parts instead of purchasing re production parts.This I think is the last of the reproduction parts I had on a shelf.

I do plan on contacing the manufactorer to voice my displeasure with the product.I also have 2 of there rebuilt front calipers on my car that I need to replace because they are weeping fluid out of both sides.

Well I called on the manufactuor of the products and was very pleased with the conversation I had.My call was returned immediately!It was explained that they had a very short run of the power steering control valves having a problem but it was 2 years ago.(mine was purchased 18 months ago and just installed on the car) and as for the calipers I should ship them to him and he will determin why they are weeping.I figured if I did not call and complain how would they know there product had a problem.

Normally when I make a call like this, the first couple of words are from somebody telling me what I did wrong or how I caused the problem.This was not the case, the person I had spoke with had a genuine concern of my problem and also a genuine concern for correcting my problem.Allthough I was steaming mad on Sunday.I am much more relaxed knowing the problem will be corrected.

Yep. As you've read, I too am getting very tired of inaccuracies in repro parts.

Makes you want to go into business building proper stuff.
