Why did 1963 Corvettes have fuel injection, but the later 66 and 67 muscle cars all had carbeurators?

With the introduction of the big block in '65 the small block was no longer the choice of racers. No substitute for cubic inches and all that. The FI engine cost $526.60 as an option vs $286.45 for the 396 with 50 more hoursepower and easier tunability. Though they were built simutaniously for a short time GM had axed the FI before the BB was introduced.
