Just what is Opti Spark

Just what is Opti Spark and what does it do.? I see a lot of chatter about it and water. Not wet washing underhood, etc.

I'd ask you to make me smart but that may be too much to expect and too little knowledge can be dangerous. So make it just right! Tnx, Sam

Here's some reading on the subject from Mike Chaney's Optispark Disection Page.

The Optispark replaces the standard distributor. It actually works better than a std distributor, significantly increasing power through accurate timing, while improving cold and hot starts.

The device, unfortunately, sits just below and behind the water pump. It sits there so it can be directly driven from the cam.
