Default Antenna Mast Replacement Help

Has anyone replaced only the antenna mast on their car. My 89 antenna stopped going up / down. The motor runs and stops as though the antenna would be working properly. I purchased the antenna mast kit, but cannot remove the antenna itself. I followed the directions and removed the retainer nut. I have to pull the antenna up since it won't go by itself. The problem is that I cannot seem to pull the antenna out of the recessed fitting. Is there some trick to this that I don't see? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dino

Jonm,
I had read the same article. It primarily deals with rebuilding the antenna. I bought the mast kit with the intention of replacing it without removing the entire antenna. I am looking to see if anyone has tried it like this.

Thanks,
Dino

i had the same problem

the sleeve gets frozen in the antenna housing
after you remove that small black nut, soak it with a rust buster or wd 40
i let it soak overnight than turn it on and with a slight twisting action it will come out

Thanks for the hint. I will try spray it with WD-40 tonight.

I soaked it with WD-40 and still cannot get it out. When I try to twist and pull up, the whole antenna seems to be pulling up. Is there anything else I can do other than just replace the whole thing?

Responded to your PM, I think I may have misunderstood the question. You have the whole unit remove from the vehicle? Or No?

I finally removed the old antenna mast. I fed the new one into the antenna and followed the instructions. The antenna only runs about 1/2 way up and down. I ran it a number of times and it has not changed. I partially removed the antenna and took it apart. I was able to feed the mast into the motor with it opened up. Once I put it back to together, something is keeping it from feeding the entire length of the zip line. Does any know if I can trim this line or will it just push the zip line right out of the motor and not work at all?

Thanks,
Dino
