Weird Turn Signal Problem... ???!!!
Car is an '84.
Today I hit the left turn signal, and it showed a solid light, and didn't make the clicking noise. So I go to autozone, pull out the burned out bulb, put in a new one and check if it works. Well the light works, but it won't blink!
I do not think it is the flasher module as the right turn signal works perfectly.
However on the drivers side, when the turn signal is activated, the rear lights go solid and so do the front turn signal lights! Solid!
So does this mean I need to reset the ECU or something? What is going on?
Thanks in advance,
-Craig
edit: on a side note when i went out to my car there was red wax all over the bumper which is now scraped along with a crack and a hole in my turn signal lens. Stupid parking lot! If I find the perpetrator ... But could the impact have somehow ruined something that would affect the blinking?

I have a '68 Camaro (yeh, totally different mechanism, but it may help) that does this after being parked for the winter. All the left bulbs are OK and turn on when activated by the turn signal lever, but don't blink (right ones blinnk when activated). It's the contact in the turn signal switch below the steering wheel. Holding it down hard or wiggling it eventually causes the left turn lights to blink. After a few days of use, the contacts apparently clean up and signals are good for the summer. Perhaps someday the steering wheel will be off and the contacts can be cleaned.
Got lots of birds here too.
Hope this helps.
PS edit, If the bulbs don't draw enough current (too low wattage) they won't blink. Try higher wattage (current) bulbs.

I had a similar problem with another, totally different car. Turned out to be poor grounding. The above post about not drawing enough current would make sense if the ground is bad.

Finally fixed the problem, it is the thing that the bulb rests in. I had to use a small wire brush and some contact cleaner, and also bend one of the contacts with a needle nose. Somehow it had become worn down/corroded and was not contacting the bulb thoroughly enough I guess. Still don't understand how that would make it go on but not blink... but the problem is solved
Thanks for all the help guys, really really appreciated!

Same problem but with the right turn signal
I had the same problem but with the right side, sometimes it flashes sometimes it doesn't!! If I push the lever just until it barely clicks the right side blinker works more often but if I push it kinda fast it won't blink.
Any ideas???
