I just went through this with my 79 L82. I got lucky and found one on Ebay at a reasonable price. I think I also found one for an L48 at Wilcox Corvette Parts. The L82 cars have a flapper on the bottom that deflects air across the radiator. The L48 does not. You can buy an L48 shroud and cut the flapper out and use the hinges from your old one or haunt ebay for a L82 unit. I was told that the L82 units are not made anymore and that you have to buy the L48 unit and modify it as above. I believe this is true as the parts sellers really nail your wallet for a used L82 unit. B/T/W if your old shroud is broken from being hit by the fan it probably means you have broken motor mounts. My car did. - Bob

Yes. My 79 L82 has the electric fan. Not sure about the L48 cars. I will check my ass'y manual tonight to see. B/T/W,if this is your first go with an early vette buy an assembly manual. It has an isometric drawing of every part on the car. I am a fair shade tree mechanic but that book has helped me many times. I would also buy a factory service manual. Both books turn up on Ebay fairly regularly and are a lot of help. Bob

Best I can tell from the ass'y manual, only the L82 cars had the electric fan. If you can find an L48 shroud you should be able to drill the holes in it for the rods that mount the motor and fan ass'y in the shroud. If you need them,I can send you photocopies of the pages out of the ass'y manual That show how the fan fits in the shroud. - Bob
