Default how to remove bad chrome

Is there a way to remove the chrome on hooker type headers and side pipes,I have some on my 69 that are in poor shape and just want to paint them

Thanks for any input

Lenny, when i want to paint chrome,i will sandblast the item it doesnt remove the chrome unless flaking off. but it does rough it up so the paint will stick.
if you're going black on your side pipes i recommend using spray paint from Southern Coatings. it is designed for high heat such as b-b-que grills.once on it will cure as you run the car,and once cured does real well at resisting chemicals and rust.
i ususally buy mine at lowe's...hope this is helpful
